Things are getting more tense as more people try to bring down Kang and Ham’s ultimate tandem in the seventh week of Suits! The KBS legal drama’s brilliant duo faces more problems as their enemies continue to increase in numbers. More people are now determined to pull Kang Seok and Yeon Woo down, even if it involves putting the people they love and the relationships they hold dear into peril. Will their enemies be successful in destroying them, or will they triumph in the end? Here’s a rundown of highlights from episodes 13 and 14 Photo from KBS Suits Drama Recap Links Episodes 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7-10, 11&12 Bringing Up the Past Another case Kang Seok has handled in the past is being dug up once again, which puts him in a sticky situation. The arrogant Attorney David Kim returns as the representative of the complainant and he is determined to bring Kang Seok down and even sends him to prison. Kang Seok, who represented the defendant Yuno Motors in a case filed against them by a guy whose family died in a car accident and claims that the company is to blame for it because there was a problem with the steering wheel, is being accused of hiding a vital evidence from the court. This evidence was a memo from the company issued before the accident claiming that the car model involved in the car crash was faulty and was just later on dug up, which led to the reopening of the case. Ms. Kang is worried that Director Ham might use this against her and Kang Seok to send them out of the company. She tells Kang Seok to find out who messed up in the case so someone can take responsibility. Kang Seok calls Ms. Hong immediately and asks her if she ever receives the memo from the company. Ms. Hong tells him that she didn’t, but she promises she’ll search the company archives to double check. Yeon Woo helps her out, and Geun Sik finds them searching which leads him to assume that there is a problem. Photo from KBS Firing the Lawyer Kang Seok meets with CEO Seo of Yuno Motors, who now looks down on him. This upsets Kang Seok, considering how much he had helped the company, so he argues with and insults the CEO. He then dares CEO Seo to fire him, which he does. Kang Seok goes to Ms. Kang and tells her that he is now officially fired by Yuno Motors, which on the bright side means he doesn’t have to maintain the confidentiality anymore. Ms. Hong is persistent in finding the memo despite Yeon Woo telling her to stop because it probably doesn’t exist. Meanwhile, Director Ham goes to Kang Seok, admitting his mistake at the hospital union negotiations and apologizing for it. He tells Kang Seok that he plans to make up for it by sharing the case he’s handling with him, but Kang Seok refuses. Yeon Woo enters Kang Seok’s office just as Director Ham is leaving, and Kang Seok eyes their interaction. Yeon Woo tells Kang Seok that they should look for Han Yoo Seok, the person who wrote the memo. He gives the document to Kang Seok and brags that he already has the address of Han Yoo Seok. Photo from KBS Meeting the Grandma Ji Na is understandably upset at Yeon Woo for having stood her up for dinner and making her worry. The associate goes to apologize and woo her, feeling happy and giddy at the fact that she is worried about him at the same time. He tells Ji Na that she makes them sound like a real couple, and when he leaves, Ji Na retorts that they are. Later on, Yeon Woo goes to Ji Na’s office and picks her up after work. They go to dinner together and he introduces her to his grandma. Yeon Woo’s grandma immediately takes a liking to Ji Na and asks her how long they’ve been together. Yeon Woo gives Ji Na a ring as they walk, but he immediately tells her that it’s not a proposal. Ji Na is touched and more than happy. Photo from KBS Forging the Evidence Kang Seok goes to meet Han Yoo Seok, who tells him that he did not write the report. He says he told the CEO about the faulty hydraulic hoses, but CEO Seo asks him not to make a report because he will fix it immediately anyway. He reveals that the defect was fixed immediately, but the cars that were sold aren’t recalled. He says that only him and CEO Seo know about the defect, and Kang Seok asks him if it is forged. He finds David Kim waiting for him outside Yoo Seok’s house, and he finds out that David set him up for a trap that will make him the accused when they get to trials. He meets with CEO Seo who seems flustered when he mentions Han Yoo Seok. He takes the steering wheel from CEO Seo out of anger, saying this must have been what the complainant felt like. He threatens CEO Seo to solve the problem immediately and walks off. Photo from KBS Finding the Memo Ms. Hong finds the memo, and she shakes as she sees the stamp saying that she received it. She is startled when Yeon Woo approaches her by the paper shredders, and she immediately heads off to Ji Na’s office. She tells the paralegal to look for their team dinner schedule, and Ji Na notices that there’s something off about Ms. Hong. Kang Seok and Yeon Woo notice how flustered Ms. Hong was. She heads to the paper shredder carrying the memo, and Yeon Woo tells her that he turned off the machine. He tells her that he knows that the document she’s holding is the memo they never received. Ms. Hong finally confesses to him, and she says that she can’t tell Kang Seok about it because people might think that he tried to conceal the truth. She gets into an argument with Yeon Woo who tells her to confess to Kang Seok. Photo from KBS Taking the Blame Kang Seok and Yeon Woo find Geun Sik waiting for them at the office. He offers to help Kang Seok because he seems to have a problem, but the lawyer turns him down. Apparently, he left his recorder at Kang Seok’s office and he had recorded Kang Seok’s conversation with Yeon Woo. He gets hurt when he hears Kang Seok look down on him and lets Director Ham hear it. Director Ham barges in to Kang Seok’s office, followed by Ms. Kang. The director confronts him and tells him that he should set aside his hatred for him at the moment for the firm’s sake. Ms. Kang informs Kang Seok that the charges will get dropped as long as he signs a document saying he never received the memo. Yeon Woo overhears it and stumbles into the office before he could. After Ms. Kang leaves, Yeon Woo tells Kang Seok that Ms. Hong found the memo. The lawyer sets off to find Ms. Hong and he hypothesizes that the fake memo was planted in their storage to eet things up. Ms. Hong cries and confesses that she shred the memo which angers Kang Seok. Ms. Kang fires Ms. Hong in Kang Seok’s place and she accepts it, considering her mistake. Kang Seok chases after her and they stare at each other sadly from a distance at the lobby. Photo from KBS Dealing with the Problem Kang Seok drinks alone and barges into Yeon Woo’s residence. The surprised associate gives him water and tells Kang Seok that Ms. Hong knows about his identity. The lawyer tells hin that he knows she does, and former prosecutor Kim also knows. Yeon Woo asks him why he did not protect Ms. Hong, and Kang Seok tells him that because of her rash decision, she rendered him unable to do so. He also says that he will try to resolve the matter, but if all else fails, Yeon Woo should find another job. Director Ham tells Ms. Kang that Attorney David Kim says they will turn a blind eye on the destruction of the evidence, but Kang and Ham must dismiss Kang Seok. Additionally, the disciplinary committee of the bar association will disqualify him as a lawyer in order for the firm’s reputation to be saved. Yeon Woo meets up with the complainant Kang Yeong Ho, who tells him that the huge settlement money she was promised played a role in convincing her to file a lawsuit. Kang Seok shows up and Yeong Ho calls someone to inform them that he did come to see her like they said he would. Kang Seok tells Ms. Kang and Director Ham that he wants to take the case to court. Director Ham refuses, saying that it will tarnish the company’s reputation. Ms. Kang tells them that they will push through with the settlement, but Attorney David Kim must clearly prove that Kang Seok made a mistake in the case. Photo from KBS Proving the Innocence Former prosecutor Kim lets Kang Seok hear Geun Sik’s recording of his conversation with Yeon Woo. He heads to Geun Sik’s office and grabs his collar, angrily asking if he knows what he had done. Meanwhile, Yeon Woo meets up with Ji Na and asks her if she would still accept him if she finds out that he is full od lies. She tells him that she likes him, if that’s what he’s asking, and that goes unconditionally. Yeon Woo seems to have gotten an idea during their conversation, and he heads to the office storage. He notices a CCTV, and he takes the footage from the security. He heads to Director Ham’s office and asks to have tea with him, to which the director obliges. The genius associate then suggests holding a mock trial to Ms. Kang, where Kang Seok could prove his innocence. It will also show how things would go if they push through with bringing the case to court. Ms. Kang tells Director Ham that she will resign if Kang Seok loses in the mock trial in order to get him to agree to it. Director Ham requests that Geun Sik should go as the prosecutor in the mock trial, alongside Yeon Woo who requested to be the prosecutor when he suggested the mock trial. Yeon Woo also goes to Ms. Hong’s place and tries to convince her to testify at the mock trials, but she refuses right away. Photo from KBS Facing the Enemy During the mock trials, Geun Sik reveals why he holds a grudge against Kang Seok. It roots from their days as associates, and he points out that Kang Seok is incapable of admitting his mistakes and feeling guilt. The former prosecutor Kim tells Director Ham about Yeon Woo’s identity after the associate tells him that he will side with the firm’s director. Yeon Woo is put in the spotlight as Geun Sik, Director Ham, and former prosecutor Kim all question his intentions. Photo from KBS They proceed with the mock trials, and this time, Ms. Kang goes to defend Kang Seok as his lawyer. She tries to show everyone Kang Seok’s good side as she reveals that Kang Seok owns the food truck in front of the office. She says that it used to be owned by an old lady with Alzheimer’s, and one day, when the old lady disappeared, he bought it for her deaf son to help him make a livelihood. Ms. Hong shows up to testify as a witness at the mock trial, but when Yeon Woo questions her about destroying the memo, she just insists that she refuses to testify. Yeon Woo changes his questions and asks her if she would follow Kang Seok’s orders if he tells her to hide an evidence despite it being illegal. Ms. Hong says that Kang Seok will never order her such a thing, but Yeon Woo repeats his question. He shocks everyone by asking Ms. Hong if she loves Kang Seok, which could have lead to her wanting to protect Kang Seok at any costs. Ms. Hong breaks down in tears and runs out of the courtroom. Kang Seok, who kept on telling Yeon Woo to stop, runs after her but fails to catch up. He confronts Yeon Woo in the restroom in anger. The associate tells him that he’s only following his advices from before, and he should see that Ms. Hong and Ms. Kang are doing everything to protect him. Director Ham overhears their conversation and congratulates Yeon Woo for a job well done. He does this in front of Geun Sik, who seems upset at the praises Yeon Woo is getting from the director. The associate tells them that he will get a testimony from CEO Seo to make sure they win. Ji Na chases after Yeon Woo and argues with him angrily over what he did to Ms. Hong and Kang Seok. However, Yeon Woo turns to leave Ji Na without saying a word. Photo from KBS Has Yeon Woo really decided to side with Director Ham? Or is he hiding something up his sleeve in order to protect Kang Seok? Find out in the finale episodes of Suits!

26 June 11, 2018June 11, 2018 Suits Episode 14 by LollyPip Da-ham’s mistake could very well cause Kang-seok to lose everything, and he’s scrambling for a way to salvage the situation. It’s only a matter of time before Kang-seok’s famous cold facade cracks and his emotions get the better of him. With even his most trusted people seeming to turn on him, Kang-seok may not be able to talk his way out of this one. EPISODE 14 ā€œThe best way to keep a secret is not telling it to anyone.ā€ Ji-na chases Yeon-woo down in the lobby, distraught. She yells loudly, ā€œWhat’s wrong with you? Did you have to take it that far? Why did you do that?!ā€ But he doesn’t answer… We backtrack to Da-ham’s dismissal as Kang-seok follows her to the lobby. Yeon-woo and Ji-na are watching from a short distance as Da-ham looks at Kang-seok tearfully for a moment, then turns to go. Instead of returning to his empty office, Kang-seok sits in a conference room and has a drink. Later he shows up at Yeon-woo’s apartment, and when Yeon-woo asks if he’s drunk, he declares that he’s never been drunk in his life. Yeon-woo says that Da-ham knows his secret, and Kang-seok tells him that AK also knows. Yeon-woo asks why Kang-seok didn’t protect Da-ham, but Kang-seok snaps that if he’d been forced to resign, or sent to prison, he couldn’t have protected her anyway. He wishes out loud that she’d told him about the fake memo when she first found it, and Yeon-woo is all, ā€œFake memo?ā€ Kang-seok explains that the quality control manager didn’t write the memo, it wasn’t officially sent, and Da-ham didn’t receive it. He concludes that it was put in evidence to trap him, and Yeon-woo takes a second to process this, then realizes that Da-ham must have destroyed the memo before they could prove it was forged. Yeon-woo asks gently why he’s not doing something, but Kang-seok just says, ā€œTomorrow… tomorrow I’m going to work like nothing is wrong, and have a normal workday. I’ll try to find a way to resolve this. But if this goes wrong, you’ll have to find another job. You can now discern things and make the choice yourself.ā€ David Kim sends an updated agreement to Kang & Ham, this one saying that they’ll ignore the destruction of evidence if Kang-seok is fired and his law license revoked. If not, they’ll hold the entire firm responsible and disclose the situation to the media. DH advises Ha-yeon to take the deal, but Ha-yeon defends Kang-seok. DH tells her that Da-ham’s mistake is Kang-seok’s mistake, so they have to do this before the partners find out that Kang-seok endangered the firm. Ha-yeon sneers that DH has finally revealed the true reason he returned, and he asks how it feels to be in his shoes. Yeon-woo decides to talk to Kang Ah-young, the daughter of the man whose family was killed in the by the faulty wheel. She tells him that her family was having financial problems when her mother and brother were killed in the accident. When her father died, she nearly gave up on life, but then she was promised an insane amount of compensation money. She asks Yeon-woo what he would have done in her place, then scoffs that he has no idea how she feels. He just says that she should be compensated, because the wheel was faulty, but he promises that the attorney defending the company didn’t know. Ah-young remembers Kang-seok as a handsome man in a slick suit, and she recalls how she cried when he blamed her father for the accident in court. She says she doesn’t care if he knew about the faulty wheel or not, because Kang-seok’s tongue was the problem. She stands to find Kang-seok nearby, and she asks him angrily if he’s here to ask her to drop the suit. Kang-seok says that Yuno Motors is planning to compensate her for damages, but that if she files another suit against him and his firm, it’s double indemnity being compensated twice for the same incident. He adds that he truly didn’t know of the faulty wheel, and if this goes to court, the prosecutor will have to prove that he did know. Instead of answering him, Ah-young pulls out her phone and calls someone David? to tell them that Kang-seok came to see her just like he said she would. She asks what to do, then walks away, shoulder-slamming Kang-seok as she passes. Kang-seok tells DH and Ha-yeon that he’s going to take the case to court. DH is skeptical that the memo Da-ham found was fake, and when Kang-seok insists she didn’t know it was fake, DH accuses him of blaming his secretary or the firm for his mistake. Kang-seok reminds Ha-yeon that she once said he speaks for her and the firm, but she recalls also saying that senior partners can’t afford to make mistakes. DH interrupts that he doesn’t care if Kang-seok goes to prison, but since this also affects the firm, he’s making the decisions. Ha-yeon stops Kang-seok when he snaps that the firm belongs to Ha-yeon, not DH. She tells DH to continue pursuing a settlement, but on one condition — David Kim will have to prove that Kang-seok made a mistake. DH nods and saunters out, and Kang-seok tells Ha-yeon that DH is trying to get rid of him so he can take Ha-yeon’s place. Ha-yeon just yells that Kang-seok shouldn’t have fallen for DH’s trap, so now he has to face the consequences. On his way back to his office, AK pulls Kang-seok aside and plays him the tape from Geun-shik’s bug, guessing that that’s how DH found out about the lawsuit against the firm. This time Kang-seok waits in Geun-shik’s office, and when the rat returns, Kang-seok shoves him into a wall and grabs the recorder from his pocket. Geun-shik has the nerve to claim that he’s trying to help Kang-seok, though another shove has him confessing. He thinks that Kang-seok has told Ha-yeon about this, but Kang-seok says he’s not like Geun-shik. He vows to have Geun-shik’s law license revoked if he keeps behaving this way, before storming out. He’s still furious when he gets back to his own office, and he sweeps everything off his desk in a fit of anger. It’s still a mess when Yeon-woo arrives to ask what Kang-seok plans to do, but Kang-seok asks if he’s just worried for himself. He says he’ll take the case to court once he proves the misunderstandings, and Yeon-woo voices the same fear as DH — that the firm will lose their clients’ trust. But Kang-seok just says that Yeon-woo needs to decide what to do about his own future. Ji-na finds Yeon-woo brooding and tells him that Da-ham isn’t answering her calls. Yeon-woo asks what she thinks of him, and when she says he’s a good person, he asks, ā€œWhat if I’m not a good person like you think I am? If I’m a conman full of lies, will you still consider me a good person?ā€ Thinking a moment, Ji-na says that all he needs to ask is if she likes him. She says he’s making it too complicated and that her answers is yes, dropping to banmal herself to say simply that she likes him. He asks why, and she says it’s just because he’s himself. Suddenly she stops, frowning, and asks if he caused trouble again. He starts to say no, but then he decides that maybe he should cause some trouble. He tells Ji-na that if he gets into real trouble, he’ll tell her everything. He visits security to get the CCTV footage from the archives. After several hours of watching the video, he sees something that makes him frown in confusion. He finds DH in his office and asks to talk, and for some reason DH mentions that the native Americans considered Columbus a viper. Yeon-woo points out that Columbus didn’t actually discover America, but was saved by America when he was lost. Remembering that Kang-seok called DH a viper that eats its own mother, Yeon-woo asks if DH believes that he saved Kang-seok when he discovered his mentor suppressing evidence, only for Kang-seok to drive him out. DH says he’s half right — he did save Kang-seok, but he stepped down because of his own mistake. Yeon-woo says that if Kang-seok steps down, it will be because of his mistake, and DH says that now he knows why Kang-seok hired Yeon-woo. He wishes they’d met sooner, but Yeon-woo argues that it’s good they met now. He says that you shouldn’t stop just because your horse is tired, and DH asks if he’s ready to change horses. Yeon-woo replies with a grin, ā€œNo, but I’m ready to ride a tiger.ā€ DH warns that the tiger may bite his neck, but Yeon-woo just nods. David Kim arrives at the firm to discuss an agreement. Kang-seok asks where he got the forged memo, and David reveals that it was sent to him anonymously. Ha-yeon tells David that the person responsible for destroying the memo was fired immediately, and that she called him here to come to an agreement she can accept. David mentions his original deal that Yuno Motors will pay Kang Ah-young five billion won in return for Kang-seok’s disbarment. He raises the offer to ten billion won, but Kang-seok says he’ll just take it to court. Ha-yeon snaps at them both to stop when their comments start to get personal, but David continues, smirking that after firing Da-ham didn’t work, Kang-seok is now hiding behind ā€œmommy.ā€ He says that he sees Kang-seok’s true self despite his flashy exterior, aware that he grew up with no mother and a gambler for a father. Kang-seok punches him, but David gets right back in his face to snarl that this is the real Kang-seok, and ends the negotiations. Having witnessed the punch, Yeon-woo speaks privately with Ha-yeon to say he understands why she wanted to settle, but that he also knows she doesn’t want to let Kang-seok go. He thinks she can give Kang-seok one last chance to prove in advance that he can win the case against the firm in court with a mock trial. He says that if Kang-seok loses the mock trial, he’s likely to lose in court, so they’ll agree to settle on David’s terms. But if Kang-seok wins the mock trial, they have reason to trust that he’ll be found innocent. Ha-yeon worries that DH won’t accept this plan, but Yeon-woo argues that he’ll be motivated to see Kang-seok kicked out and her position questioned. When she takes the idea to DH, Ha-yeon offers DH the chance to prove that the memo was real and that Kang-seok knew about it through the mock trial, and in the process prove that he himself wasn’t involved. She sweetens the deal by offering to resign as managing partner if Kang-seok loses the mock trial, and DH chuckles gleefully. Ha-yeon does have one condition, which was Yeon-woo’s idea — that Yeon-woo plays the prosecutor. Ha-yeon doubted that DH would agree, so Yeon-woo promises to convince him. She takes the plan to Kang-seok, and they agree that they need to convince Da-ham to testify for this to work. Meanwhile, Yeon-woo approaches DH about playing prosecutor in the mock trial. He vows to win and get Kang-seok kicked out with a testimony about Kang-seok destroying evidence. DH asks why he’d do it the hard way, so Yeon-woo says that he owes it to Kang-seok to give him a chance. But he promises DH that he’ll win and prove that he’s worthy to be on his side by enacting his revenge so that nobody knows. DH agrees to the mock trial, but he tells Ha-yeon that he also has a condition that the senior partners serve as the jury, and that Geun-shik plays prosecutor instead of Yeon-woo. When everything is agreed upon, Yeon-woo tells Kang-seok, who asks what Yeon-woo’s game is. In answer, Yeon-woo hands Kang-seok a file and says they need to take a risk to discover who’s behind this. He asks if Kang-seok trusts him, but Kang-seok says he doesn’t — from this moment forward they’re a prosecutor and the accused. Yeon-woo finds Geun-shik practicing his statements in the restroom. Geun-shik tells him to get lost, but Yeon-woo reminds him that they’re partners and assures him that he’s on DH’s side now. DH admits to Ha-yeon that he agreed to the mock trial because he has nothing to lose either way. He tells her that she can keep her position even if Kang-seok loses, assuming that she wants Yeon-woo to be the prosecutor to assure herself a win. Instead of correcting him, she asks what happens if she wins, and DH says they’ll take the case to court. Yeon-woo visits Da-ham, who says she won’t testify in the mock trial. He says he’s partly responsible because he gave her a chance to tell Kang-seok about the memo herself, and she asks why Kang-seok can ask this of her. Yeon-woo says that she made the mistake, but it’s Kang-seok who may be disbarred or even imprisoned. Da-ham sighs that there’s nothing she can do and invites Yeon-woo to speak to her lawyer. Yeon-woo huffs incredulously, then says that if she’s already made a decision, then he’ll stop caring about her, too, but he warns that she’ll regret this for the rest of her life. She points out that he’s the one doing something he’ll regret, telling him to go back where he belongs. Kang-seok and Ha-yeon discuss the fact that both of their futures depend on the results of the mock trial. Ha-yeon doesn’t tell Kang-seok that DH offered to let her keep her position — instead she tells Kang-seok that he had better win. The mock trial begins, and Geun-shik starts by questioning Kang-seok. Kang-seok testifies that he considers himself honest, so Geun-shik asks him about a time when Geun-shik was Kang-seok’s associate, and Kang-seok hid a file from him. A flashback shows that Kang-seok was merely playing a prank, which he testifies to now. Geun-shik asks if that makes it okay and if Kang-seok ever apologized, and Kang-seok says no to both questions. He denies that anything else like that ever happened, but Geun-shik states that there were many incidents. He says that Kang-seok has no conscience, and Ha-yeon finally objects that all of this is irrelevant. But Geun-shik claims that it’s relevant because due to Kang-seok’s inability to admit fault, two people died and the accident survivor ended up killing himself. DH who is acting as judge calls an hour-long recess, and Geun-shik offers Kang-seok an insincere apology. During the break, AK tells DH that Yeon-woo is lying about being a lawyer, and that she got this job because she threatened Kang-seok. She adds that she’s here to prove to DH that she wants to be on his side. Meanwhile, Geun-shik brags about how awesome he was, thanking Yeon-woo for writing his script. Yeon-woo says it will be fine as long as Da-ham also follows the script. Geun-shik says that first, DH wants to make sure Yeon-woo is really with them, and sends him into DH’s office. DH says that he heard Yeon-woo is the reason Kang-seok hired AK, and AK tells Yeon-woo that DH knows his secret. DH wants to know why Kang-seok chose Yeon-woo as his associate, and AK asks why he’s now betraying Kang-seok to side with them. Ha-yeon paces in her office, concerned that the partners will turn their backs on her. Kang-seok asks if she’s worried about him, or her position, reminding her of who he is. He promises that he’ll disappear quietly if they lose and asks her to do her best. Yeon-woo says that he knows why DH decided to make the mock trial into a jury vote — because out of thirty-eight senior partners, he and Ha-yeon each have the guaranteed loyalty of fifteen. That leaves eight uncertain votes, but since the case against the firm will look bad if it goes to court, DH is counting on those partners voting against it. Those eight voters will also come to trust DH more, since he’s the one who doesn’t want this to go to court, tipping things in his favor. Yeon-woo says that Kang-seok hired him because he’s capable of quickly reading a room, and that’s also why he’s on DH’s side now — he trusts numbers, not humans, and DH is practically guaranteed to come out on top. Yeon-woo leaves DH’s office, and DH also dismisses Geun-shik, leaving him alone with AK. He says the Kang-seok he knows wouldn’t let his opponent use his weakness as a threat, but would instead use the opponent’s weakness to make an agreement, concluding that AK must have a weakness. When the mock trial resumes, Ha-yeon questions Kang-seok. He testifies that his first job for Ha-yeon was to fire people, and that he once told Ha-yeon that he resented her for it. She corrects that he actually said he wanted to spit in her face, and that for a year after that, he would only take public interest cases or threaten to resign, and he admits sheepishly that he was immature. Ha-yeon addresses the audience, mentioning the toast truck outside the building every morning. She says that it used to be a shabby snack cart, but now it’s a nice food truck run by the former owner’s son. She reveals that Kang-seok actually owns that food truck, and Kang-seok looks uncomfortable. Another flashback shows Kang-seok frequenting the old snack cart, but one day the cart was gone and the owner’s son was sitting dejectedly on the curb. Kang-seok had asked about his mother, and soon, instead of the old cart, a fancy new food truck was in its place. Kang-seok had told the man that if anyone ever wanted to buy the truck, to have them call his lawyer. The man asked why he bought him the new truck, in sign language. Kang-seok simply said, ā€œBecause it’s delicious.ā€ Ha-yeon says that Kang-seok is the same person now as he was when he said he wanted to spit in her face — a man with a kind heart, whether it’s towards a client or an opponent, though he doesn’t want people to know. She speculates that it’s because having a warm heart means you have a lot to protect. Kang-seok breaks in to snap that it also means you have a lot of weaknesses, which you can’t afford if you want to last at Kang & Ham. Ha-yeon adds that it’s not luck that makes him a lawyer with a clean record. She says he’s always won and never created controversy, and Geun-shik asks when she’s going to make an actual argument. Ha-yeon says simply, ā€œThere is no argument.ā€ Later, DH sneers to Yeon-woo that Ha-yeon and Kang-seok are playing for the sympathy vote. Yeon-woo says he’ll have to attack Kang-seok’s weakness, and when the trial resumes, he looks ready to do just that. He calls Da-ham as a witness, and she enters the room to testify. Yeon-woo asks her if Kang-seok ordered her to destroy the memo, or if she did it on her own after he told her not to, but after each question she simply says, ā€œI refuse to testify.ā€ Yeon-woo asks if she would do something illegal if Kang-seok asked her to, but she says he would never ask, so Yeon-woo asks if there’s a reason she’s not answering the actual question. With a glance towards Kang-seok, Yeon-woo asks Da-ham if she’s in love with Kang-seok. Kang-seok looks very interested in her answer, and Ha-yeon objects that it’s irrelevant, but Yeon-woo says it’s relevant because if she loves him, she might do something wrong for her loved one. Ha-yeon objects again, saying that how Da-ham feels doesn’t matter. But Yeon-woo says it also doesn’t matter whether Kang-seok has a kind heart or not. He asks again if she loves Kang-seok, and Da-ham remembers the times she’s acted on her own in Kang-seok’s best interest, like handing in her list of the times Deputy Chief Prosecutor Oh suppressed evidence. Kang-seok orders Yeon-woo to stop, but he asks again, ā€œDo you love him?!ā€ Da-ham stammers tearfully, and when Yeon-woo pushes for an answer, Kang-seok bellows, ā€œI’ll say I ordered her to do it, so stop!!ā€ Da-ham gets up and runs from the room, and DH ends the mock trial. Kang-seok follows Da-ham and catches up to her in the lobby, but he doesn’t call out to her. Instead he goes back to confront Yeon-woo, who says that he taught him that to turn a trial around, you have to shake someone up. Kang-seok barks that he destroyed Da-ham today, not him, but Yeon-woo just says that if Kang-seok wanted to protect her, he shouldn’t have let her get fired. He adds that Kang-seok shouldn’t have weaknesses or enemies either, because Da-ham and Ha-yeon are doing all this to protect him. Kang-seok murmurs that Yeon-woo really means what he said, and Yeon-woo reminds him that he had to make his own choice. He leaves, running into DH, who smiles with satisfaction and pride. They go to DH’s office, where Yeon-woo says that Ha-yeon’s statements made the jury see Kang-seok’s character in a different light, so they need to do something else to win the mock trial and thus make Kang-seok resign. His suggestion is to convince CEO Seo from Yuno Motors settle the case, which would make it look like Kang-seok threatened him. DH agrees so Yeon-woo leaves to talk with CEO Seo, but Geun-shik looks unsettled. Ji-na has been watching the mock trial, and she catches Yeon-woo before he leaves. Upset, she asks why he attacked Da-ham, and if he really plans to put an end to Da-ham and Kang-seok this way. She calls him cruel, and his eyes only betray the slightest flicker before he turns to walk away from her. As he goes, he thinks to himself, ā€œThe best way to keep a secret is not telling it to anyone.ā€ COMMENTS I wasn’t sure before, but now I’m 100% convinced that Kang-seok loves Da-ham. His mantra has always been to win at any cost, but he’s willing to throw everything away — his career, his good name, the respect of his peers — to save Da-ham. I didn’t think this was a show that could make me cry, but the moment when he offered to confess to stop Da-ham from crying got me right here. I had a feeling the whole mock trial issue would come up again, after the show took such pains to have Yeon-woo fail spectacularly the first time. I’m confident that Yeon-woo is playing both sides and not truly trying to oust Kang-seok from the firm, but I’m worried about what his plan actually is. He’s in a good position to lose purposely, ensuring that the case goes to trial, which is what Kang-seok wants because it puts the burden on the opposition to show that he knowingly suppressed evidence David Kim will be forced to prove that Kang-seok knew about the original memo, but since the original memo never existed, it will be impossible. But Yeon-woo seems to be torpedoing every good relationship he has in order to help Kang-seok, and I don’t really know why. Yes he respects Kang-seok, but their relationship isn’t exactly a good one, so why is Yeon-woo willing to sacrifice everything for him? That being said, I’m confused as to why Kang-seok is still being held responsible for the destruction of the fake evidence after Da-ham’s dismissal. She was fired to show that the firm took her mistake very seriously, and doesn’t tolerate that kind of disregard for the law. And Kang-seok didn’t even know about the memo until after it was gone, so there’s no way anyone can say he’s as guilty as Da-ham, and yet they’re saying exactly that. Maybe it’s the same cultural opinion that says that family members can be held responsible when someone breaks the law, but I don’t really understand that opinion, either. I’m also very confused by a lot that happened during the mock trial — to be fair, everything I know about the law comes from American television, but so much about the mock trial seemed very wrong to me. First of all, Geun-shik was obviously using his position as prosecutor to air his own personal grievances against Kang-seok, and at the very least, if he felt his experiences were relevant, Yeon-woo should have questioned Geun-shik as a witness. But he was allowed to stand up there and state negative personal opinions about Kang-seok, which rubbed me the wrong way. Second, why was DH allowed to be the judge? He’s much too biased against Kang-seok, so they should have found someone truly neutral. Also, Geun-shik claimed that Kang-seok’s unwillingness to admit fault caused two deaths, but that makes no sense… the man’s wife and son were already dead when the accident trial took place two years ago. It was CEO Seo’s cover-up of the faulty wheel that caused the deaths, before the trial. Even Ha-yeon was allowed to tell a story instead of questioning Kang-seok, and to make assumptions about his character, which I can’t imagine would be allowed in a true courtroom, mock or not. That said, I’m glad we got to learn that Kang-seok does have weaknesses, and very humanitarian ones, at that. He’s shown a marked disregard for people’s circumstances in the past, even when doing his job means making their circumstances worse. I don’t really buy Ha-yeon’s assertion that he’s a big softie, but I can believe that Kang-seok compartmentalizes — puts his feelings away when he’s working so that his emotions don’t influence his actions. He knows that he has the ability to care too much, so he just shuts that side of himself down completely. It would explain why Yeon-woo has been described as ā€œexactly like Kang-seok, but completely different,ā€ and it’s true — they both care a lot about people, but Kang-seok is afraid to let himself feel those things while Yeon-woo lets his emotions guide him. But now Yeon-woo is learning to hide his real feelings in order to win, and Kang-seok is letting his emotions get in the way of his convictions, and I’m not sure it’s a good look on either of them. 44 June 9, 2018 Suits Episode 13 by LollyPip Things are looking better at Kang & Ham, despite the disruption that Director Ham’s presence causes. Kang-seok seems to have gotten his ethical values back in line, and Yeon-woo is feeling more confident both personally and professionally. But the office is thrown into a crisis when the last person they ever expect to make a mistake does something that could threaten all of their futures. EPISODE 13 ā€œThe moment you fly up with wings called lies, you will not be landing.ā€ Yeon-woo finds Director Ham waiting outside his apartment and they go somewhere to talk. Director Ham tells Yeon-woo that he knows how it feels to be betrayed by someone you trusted. He claims that he returned to admit his wrongdoings and pay for them, but Kang-seok and Ha-yeon are trying to stop him. Back at the office, Attorney Kim asks Kang-seok why he’s lying that Yeon-woo is an attorney. Kang-seok just says that a lie doesn’t exist until it’s exposed, but he looks troubled. He waits for Yeon-woo at the toast truck the following morning and admits that he was wrong not to anticipate that Director Ham would target Yeon-woo as soon as he returned. He also warns Yeon-woo that he may have to put him to use one day, but he promises that it won’t be in an emotional dispute against Director Ham. Yeon-woo tells Kang-seok that Director Ham came to his home yesterday, and that Director Ham wonders if Yeon-woo holds one of his weaknesses. But Yeon-woo says that Kang-seok’s weakness is his weakness, so his conclusion is that they need to protect one another, and Kang-seok bristles at the idea that he needs Yeon-woo’s protection. Later, Da-ham informs Kang-seok that the family of a deceased man whose family died in a car accident has decided to sue the manufacturer… again. Yeon-woo outlines the situation — two years ago, Kang Young-ho was driving with his wife and son when their car ran into a tree. His wife and son died, and he sued the car manufacturer saying that the steering wheel was uncontrollable, but he lost the case. Da-ham tells Kang-seok that Young-ho killed himself recently, and his surviving daughter has filed a new lawsuit against Yuno Motors their client citing additional evidence regarding the original accident. Geun-shik introduces Attorney Kim to Director Ham, who asks why she isn’t working as Kang-seok’s associate. Attorney Kim states that Kang-seok got her here, but she wants to be on Geun-shik and Director Ham’s side. Director Ham welcomes her and offers to arrange a get-together soon, and he holds Geun-shik back as Attorney Kim leaves. He tells Geun-shik that he’s aware that Attorney Kim was a talented prosecutor, but that he had someone else in mind to be Geun-shik’s associate. He asks if Geun-shik’s goal is truly to win against Kang-seok and take what he owns as trophies. Yeon-woo lurks outside Ji-na’s office, and when she comes out, he blurts out a ā€œsorryā€ for missing their dinner date last night. Although she says she knows that he’s busy, it’s obvious to Yeon-woo that she’s pissed. She agrees that she has a quick temper, but blames him for letting her down. She says the worst part was that she couldn’t reach him, and Yeon-woo perks up a little to think that she worried about him. He follows her around the building, asking cutely if she was worried, and she says he’s awfully shameless for someone claiming to be sorry. He says he’s sorry but also happy, because it feels like they’re dating. Ji-na huffs that he’s probably never dated anyone before, and he gets indignant, then admits sheepishly that he hasn’t. Ji-na tells Yeon-woo to go memorize some books on dating, but he says he can only memorize things he understands, but she’s got him all confused. She says he already knows what to do and is doing a good job, confusing him even further, hee. He invites her to dinner again tonight, and when he’s gone, Ji-na grumbles affectionately, ā€œWe kissed, so we’re obviously in a relationship. I thought he was a genius, but he’s nothing but a fool.ā€ Geun-shik tells Attorney Kim that he’ll never abandon her as his associate, and she rolls her eyes so hard, ha. He says that Director Ham is planning to get rid of Kang-seok, and she says dutifully that he’s the only one who can truly fight against Kang-seok. He tells her his number one rule — always take cases to court, or as he calls it, ā€œthe ring.ā€ When Kang-seok and Yeon-woo meet with the car manufacturer’s lawyer, they’re only slightly surprised to find themselves face-to-face with David Kim again. David looks more angry than arrogant, and when Kang-seok asks why he’s still in the country, he slaps down his new business card declaring that he’s now a senior partner at Taeyang Law Firm. Focusing on the case, Kang-seok informs David that Kang Young-ho was disabled, so it took him thirty-three tries to get his driver’s license. He says that the accident was caused by Young-ho’s poor driving skills, not the steering wheel. David produces the new evidence — a report from Yuno Motors’ own quality management team that was written three months’ prior to the accident, proving that they knew about the problem with the wheel. Kang-seok says he never saw this report during the original case, but David just presents the new suit demanding the equivalent of two million dollars. He drawls that Kang-seok will be the one humiliated this time and gives them another suit, this time against Kang-seok and Kang & Ham for committing illegal acts. He vows to prove that Kang-seok knew about the quality report during the original trial, and put him in prison. Kang-seok takes the quality report to Ha-yeon, showing her that it’s a memo, not an official report. She says it’s still enough to overturn the original ruling and asks if he’s completely sure he never received it. Kang-seok swears he never got it and has nothing to hide. She’s worried that Director Ham will find out about this and react badly. Kang-seok sighs that he’ll find out anyway since he’s friends with the CEO of Yuma Motors, so Ha-yeon orders him to find whoever dropped the ball and fire them immediately. Kang-seok goes to Da-ham, who says sarcastically that of course she received the report and hid it from him. She continues that the NIS has sent her several documents that she’s hidden about a robot living in Jamsil Baseball Stadium, HA. Kang-seok feels bad that Ha-yeon mistrusts him, and he sighs that if he doesn’t find the person who made this mistake, he’ll have to resign himself. Da-ham excuses herself to scour the archives, and Kang-seok says that if Yeon-woo really wants to help, he’ll do nothing and stay away from Director Ham. Yeon-woo goes to the archives to help Da-ham anyway, and when Geun-shik wanders in, Da-ham throws herself at Yeon-woo as if they were having a lovers’ tryst. Geun-shik leaves, but he’s convinced that something’s up. Kang-seok meets with CEO Seo of Yuno Motors, where he’s told that there’s a new lead attorney. Attorney Lee mentions that David seems out to get Kang-seok, having told them that Kang-seok’s previous oversight is the reason this case is being revisited. He tells Kang-seok that he’s still on the case, just as an adviser. Ignoring the smug attorney, Kang-seok reminds CEO Seo that he’s the one who stood beside him in court before. He snaps at CEO Seo for ignoring him after he helped his small company grow rich. When Attorney Lee warns CEO Seo not to respond, Kang-seok accuses CEO Seo of being unable to make his own decisions, and says that the problem isn’t the wheel, but CEO Seo’s cowardice. He practically dares CEO Seo to fire him, and CEO Seo gives him the ax. Kang-seok leaves looking satisfied, and he seems pretty happy to tell Ha-yeon that he goaded Yuno Motors into dismissing him, because now he doesn’t have to maintain confidentiality. After a while, Yeon-woo tells Da-ham to stop looking for the memo, trusting her that she didn’t receive it. He says he found something else and takes it to show Kang-seok, calling Kang-seok on his way up to says that if that memo exists, then the person who wrote it also exists. Director Ham lets himself into Kang-seok’s office to admit that he made a mistake with the hospital negotiations or so he says. He offers to share his case with Kang-seok, but Kang-seok says that he’s working on eight special cases. Director Ham persists, so Kang-seok agrees to meet next week. Director Ham runs into Yeon-woo on his way out and invites him to tea in his office sometime, and Kang-seok grumbles that they seem close. Yeon-woo says they’re not as close as Kang-seok and Attorney Kim, but he denies being jealous since he doesn’t feel inferior. He shows Kang-seok that he found the writer of the memo, the quality control manager at Yuno Motors, Han Yoo-seok. Oddly, although he used to write several such memos a week, after the one about the steering wheel, he was put on an indefinite paid leave of absence. Yeon-woo says that Yuno Motors couldn’t fire him without risking him leaking information about the faulty parts. Kang-seok mutters, ā€œSmartā€¦ā€ but when Yeon-woo waves away the praise, Kang-seok says he meant CEO Seo, lol. But Yeon-woo insists that Kang-seok acknowledge his brain, sticking the address to his forehead and pouting when Kang-seok reaches for it. He brags that he’s the only one who can solve Kang-seok’s problems, only for Kang-seok to snatch the address and snap that he’ll solve his own problems. Undaunted, Yeon-woo trills that he’s been solving Kang-seok’s problem so far. He stops to pick up Ji-na for their date, telling her that they’re going to eat somewhere that the food is delicious, and that there’s someone he wants her to meet — aww, he’s introducing her to Grandma, isn’t he? Yep, he is. He takes his ladies to a tiny restaurant, and when Grandma asks how long they’ve been dating, Yeon-woo says it’s not like that, but Grandma tattles that he said he wanted to give Ji-na a ring. She tells Ji-na that Yeon-woo is smart and kind, but also very naĆÆve, and Ji-na agrees. They talk about him like he’s not sitting right there dying of embarrassment, ha. Grandma advises Ji-na to pull him along, and Ji-na cheerfully promises to try. While they eat, Ji-na buys a bottle of sorghum wine. The wine relaxes everyone, and Grandma sits back to enjoy watching her beloved grandson with the lady he’s obviously head over heels for. After dinner, Ji-na says that Yeon-woo’s grandmother seems like a great person. She asks who the person is at their firm that he likes that Grandma mentioned, pointing hopefully to herself. But Yeon-woo just says that Grandma was asking if he’d ever meet someone to put a ring on, so he made up a lie. That makes Ji-na grumpy, so Yeon-woo says it’s a lie that he lied. He pulls a ring from his pocket and puts it on Ji-na’s finger, but he says it’s not what she thinks… yet. Dropping to banmal and calling her by name for the first time, he says that he thinks about her and wants to know more about her. Ji-na shuts him up with a kiss, lamenting that she has to listen to her elders and pull him forward. When they finally break apart, Yeon-woo displays his matching ring, Ji-na asks if they just established their rabbit farm. She continues on her way, and Yeon-woo dutifully follows. Down in the archives, Da-ham stands frozen in shock. In her hand she holds the original memo regarding the faulty steering wheel, which she herself stamped as ā€œreceivedā€ two years ago. The next day, Kang-seok visits Yuno Motors’ former quality control manager, Han Yoo-seok, who claims that he didn’t write the memo. He says that he informed CEO Seo of the problem and was instructed not to write a report because it would be fixed immediately. He says that the fault did get fixed in new cars, but there was never a recall of sold cars. According to Yoo-seok, he and CEO Seo were the only ones who knew of the defect. He insists he never wrote a report, but he does tell Kang-seok that everything on the memo is true. Kang-seok finds David Kim leaning on his car looking smug. Kang-seok accuses David of manipulating him into meeting Han Yoo-seok, and David doesn’t deny that his goal was to fluster Kang-seok, so that now he knows CEO Seo covered up a serious issue. David tells Kang-seok that he’ll be called to testify and will be compelled to tell the truth, at which time he’ll become the accused. He crows that Kang-seok will end up in prison due to all the prosecutors dying to take him in. When CEO Seo gets in his car to head home, Kang-seok lets himself into the passenger seat and tells him that he just met with Han Yoo-seok. CEO Seo suddenly looks terrified and complies when Kang-seok orders him to drive. He asks what Kang-seok expects from him, so to make a point, Kang-seok grabs the steering wheel and yanks on it, hard. He lets go before they drive off the road and snarls that if their steering wheel had worked properly, Kang Young-ho’s family wouldn’t have died. He says CEO Seo should feel what they felt during the accident and yanks on the wheel again, and this time CEO Seo screeches to a halt in the middle of the road. Looking at CEO Seo’s terrified expression, Kang-seok says that he took the original case because CEO Seo looked at him just like that and swore there was nothing wrong with the steering wheel. He orders him to compensate the family and threatens dire consequences if he refuses. Da-ham snaps at Ji-na for misplacing a schedule, and Ji-na can’t understand why she’s upset. She asks what’s wrong, and Da-ham yells that nobody at this firm does their job properly before storming out. Geun-shik wonders what Da-ham and Yeon-woo were hiding earlier, sensing that Kang-seok has caused some trouble. But Attorney Kim who’s feeding his goldfish, ha disagrees that Kang-seok would make waves while Director Ham is trying to oust him. Geun-shik gets up to investigate, but Attorney Kim stops him and offers to do it herself. She tells him to focus on winning against Kang-seok, and he smiles and advises her not to focus just on winning. She asks how he can say to always take things ā€œto the ringā€ but not to try to win, and he says they just need to do the opposite of Kang-seok. LOL, I love how she looks at him like he’s an idiot and he doesn’t even notice. Returning to the office, Kang-seok tells an adorably perky Yeon-woo that he’s not sure if the memo is real or not, but CEO Seo definitely hid the flaw in the steering wheel. He says he shook up CEO Seo a bit and plans to sit back and see what he does next. They find Geun-shik in Kang-seok’s office, and when he asks if Kang-seok has a problem, Kang-seok quips that his only problem is finding Geun-shik in his office, ha. Geun-shik says that he can’t lose Kang-seok before he’s promoted, but Kang-seok insists he doesn’t need his help. After Geun-shik leaves, Kang-seok tells Yeon-woo that he’s serious about wanting to get promoted and fight against Kang-seok. He says that even if he does get promoted, he still doesn’t want his help because he’s vastly inferior. CEO Seo calls Kang-seok, who tells him that he’s making the right decision. Yeon-woo asks if he’s dropping the suit against Kang-seok and the firm, but Kang-seok says he hasn’t yet, they’ve only agreed to come to an agreement, though he’s determined to make that happen before Director Ham finds out. Both men spot Da-ham at her desk looking upset and assume it’s because she can’t find the original memo. Kang-seok says she should stop looking, since it was just a red herring to make him visit Han Yoo-seok. The camera pans to his desk, and we see that Geun-shik installed a bug to listen in on his conversations. Ji-na brings Da-ham the schedule she misplaced, snapping that there’s one person in the firm who does their job properly. Da-ham apologizes and says she was talking about herself when she said that, and Ji-na tells her to just say what’s wrong, in that case. But Da-ham can’t, so Ji-na leaves annoyed. Da-ham takes the memo, planning to shred it. Yeon-woo follows her and says that he’s concerned, since she bit his head off this morning then fought with Ji-na. He knows that she’s found the original memo, the one that supposedly never existed. She confesses that she found the memo with her stamp on it, but that she’s scared to tell Kang-seok for fear that people will think he concealed evidence. Yeon-woo points out that shredding it is a crime, and Da-ham barks that he can’t speak of crimes when he’s practicing law without a license, startling him. She tells him that she’s known from the beginning, and that she’s thinking of shredding the memo to protect Kang-seok. Yeon-woo insists that destroying it will only put him in more danger, but Da-ham argues that he’s putting Kang-seok in danger daily. Yeon-woo says he can’t argue with that, but they can talk about his issues later, after she tells Kang-seok about the memo. Geun-shik listens to Kang-seok and Yeon-woo’s conversation about the lawsuit against Kang & Ham, and how Kang-seok doesn’t think Geun-shik will ever be promoted because he plans to get rid of Director Ham. Director Ham comes in and can tell from Geun-shik’s expression that something is wrong. Da-ham works up the nerve to tell Kang-seok about the memo, but he surprises her with vacation tickets for her birthday, then Director Ham bursts in, having heard about the lawsuit. He accuses Kang-seok and Ha-yeon of being willing to destroy the company just because they hate him, and Da-ham takes the opportunity to slink away while Kang-seok yells that he doesn’t trust Director Ham. Ha-yeon interrupts that she was the one who hid the lawsuit from Director Ham, though what’s more important is what they do about it. Kang-seok would rather Director Ham stay out of it, but Director Ham says he’ll help them anyway, for the sake of Kang & Ham, and he leaves to meet with the CEO of Taeyang Law Firm. Later, Ha-yeon tells Kang-seok that Director Ham and Taeyang’s CEO agreed that Yuno Motors will pay compensation to the accident victim’s family and drop the suit against Kang-seok and the firm. The condition is that Kang-seok will sign a statement swearing that he never saw the memo about the faulty steering wheel. Accidentally overhearing them, Yeon-woo rushes into the office to stop Kang-seok from signing. He purposely trips and sprawls on the coffee table, knocking Ha-yeon’s coffee into her lap, so she excuses herself to clean up. Yeon-woo tells Kang-seok not to sign the agreement, because Da-ham found the original memo. Kang-seok practically runs to the archives, locking the door behind him when he finds Da-ham. She knows why he’s there and says that she has no memory of signing for the memo. She says she hid it from him to protect him, and offers to admit her mistake and resign. Kang-seok says that she should have told him if she wanted to protect him, but she just replies that if her past and future actions endanger him, then he should fire her. She’s surprised to learn that the quality control manager claims he never wrote any memo, so Kang-seok suspects that it’s a forgery. It’s impossible for Da-ham to have signed for it two years ago, and Kang-seok is certain that Da-ham wouldn’t make such a colossal mistake. He adds that if they were trying to hide the memo, they certainly wouldn’t have stored it with the rest of the case files. He believes that someone planted it, which makes the fake memo valuable proof that someone set him up. But instead of being relieved, Da-ham grows even more upset. She confesses that when she saw Director Ham yelling at Kang-seok for hiding things from him, she shredded the fake memo. Kang-seok is horrified and asks angrily if firing her is enough. He goes to Ha-yeon, looking devastated after his initial anger wears off, and Ha-yeon says she’ll take care of it. She finds Da-ham at her desk and says that she stopped Kang-seok from doing this himself as a kindness to both him and Da-ham. Da-ham asks if she’s being fired, and Ha-yeon gives her a small nod. She thanks Da-ham for everything she’s done for her and Kang-seok, and says she’s sorry this happened. She gently asks Da-ham to leave, thanking her one last time. Da-ham cleans out her desk, but when she exits the office for the last time, she leaves behind the tickets Kang-seok gave her for her birthday. She’s crying by the time she gets down to the lobby, and she stops to look back one final time. Kang-seok is standing there, and they share one last look. COMMENTS I’m still loving the way that Yeon-woo and Ji-na’s relationship is progressing. They’ve finally gotten comfortable with being honest about their feelings, so it’s just cute now when Ji-na gets grouchy with Yeon-woo when he’s annoying, or when Yeon-woo keeps confessing then immediately pretending that he doesn’t really like Ji-na that much. It was great when Grandma told Ji-na that she’ll need to be the one in charge, because they both know that Yeon-woo is pretty innocent when it comes to relationships friendly or otherwise. He’s a beta male despite his prodigious intellect, and he needs a strong woman to offset his tendency to hang back and let romantic opportunities pass him by. And Ji-na steps into that role beautifully, now that she’s learned to express her strong opinions without being unfairly critical of Yeon-woo. She gives Yeon-woo the benefit of the doubt that he’s simply clueless, not deliberately hurtful, and she tells him exactly what she needs from him instead of expecting him to read her mind. It’s no surprise to me that Ji-na was the one to initiate a kiss both times, and I’m glad that she accepts that she’ll have to make the first moves in their relationship. I know that initially I didn’t think Yeon-woo and Ji-na would make a very good couple because they were so different, but now that they’re starting to understand one another, I actually think they fit together pretty perfectly. I’ve been bracing myself for Da-ham to have a crisis, because she’s really the only character that so far, has escaped any negative consequences of all of these shady cases Kang-seok handles. I knew that finding that memo would send her into a tailspin she may not recover from, especially since she believed that she herself signed that she received it. Da-ham prides herself on doing an impeccable job as Kang-seok’s assistant, but losing and forgetting that memo would have been a huge mistake, if it hadn’t turned out to be a fake. So I don’t really blame Da-ham for going into panic mode and shredding it even after Yeon-woo’s warning, because as good of an employee as she is and as much as she prides herself on her work, her loyalty to Kang-seok is stronger. As much as he walks the legal tightrope, I’m only surprised that Da-ham didn’t get caught in the crossfire sooner. I’m genuinely worried about Da-ham, because as much as she’s proven in the past that she does the right thing, in this case, her dilemma wasn’t strictly professional/legal. She’s pretty much admitted, at least to herself, that she has feelings for Kang-seok, so her instinct to protect him is both professional and personal. It’s no surprise that being forced to choose between shielding the man she respects and loves, and doing the morally and legally correct thing, nearly broke her. She was probably half out of her mind with fear for Kang-seok by the time she shredded the memo, which severely clouded her judgment. But what she did wasn’t just wrong, it was illegal, and I’m scared that losing her job is only the beginning of the repercussions she’s going to suffer for acting emotionally instead of logically. Interestingly, I liked the softer side of Ha-yeon that we saw when she offered to fire Da-ham on Kang-seok’s behalf. So far we’ve mostly seen Ha-yeon as a cool, professional woman who’s fierce enough to play with the big boys, so I appreciated this chance to see her showing compassion for two people she obviously cares about very much. She knew that if Kang-seok had to fire Da-ham himself, after all their years together, that it would destroy both of them. I loved how Ha-yeon did the horrible but necessary deed with care and affection instead of anger and recriminations. I feel like it was thoughtful, and very deliberate, that her last words to Da-ham were not ā€œplease leaveā€ but ā€œthank youā€ — I believe that in her way, Ha-yeon was telling Da-ham that her years of loyalty are remembered and appreciated, and are not erased by the one wrong choice she made.
